About the Author

Stephen K. Harrel, DDS, is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology and maintained a private practice limited to periodontics in Dallas, Texas for over thirty years.� He is also President of Texas Medical and Dental Designs LLC, and an adjunct professor at the Texas A&M Health Science Center Baylor College of Dentistry in Dallas, Texas. Dr. Harrel’s research has been in minimally invasive periodontal therapy, occlusion and periodontal disease, periodontal treatment outcomes, and infection control. He has contributed chapters to textbooks and has published numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals. Dr. Harrel lectures throughout the U.S.

Thomas G. Wilson, Jr., DDS, is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology and has a private practice limited to periodontics in Dallas, Texas. Dr. Wilson has lectured extensively on a national and international level and is the author of numerous professional publications and books on periodontics and implant dentistry. He is a Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Texas at San Antonio Dental School and Baylor University College of Dentistry and has served as editor-in-chief of an international dental journal and associate editor of the Journal of Periodontology.

I have never seen such an amazing book

When I opened this book I thought it would be another boring book, but I eventually found that it tells me a wonderful story about our humanity. It didn't take long time before I understand that this story began before we were human beings. It began when we were apes. It told me what happened in each part on this world through time, how medicine had developed and how it became to what it's now. If I had a choise to read another book that this man wrote I would definitely read. So in a few words I want to tell you that I have never read such a wonderful story...

A CHALLENGING AND MUCH NEEDED WORK

Arguing With God: A Jewish Tradition provides a much needed scriptural and historical basis for a theology of protest. After the Shoah, and in a world where new violence is all too frequent, some find the accepted ways of thinking about and dealing with God inadequate. Laytner provides another option for those who find the other models of faith inadequate or impossible. He grounds his work in scripture and in tradition, showing that arguing with God does not represent such a radical break from the past. It also rooted in the idea that we must defend those who are unjustly suffering, and this is a much needed ethic in our world. Whether or not you end up pursuing this tradition yourself, Laytner's book is a must for anyone interested in exploring ways of thinking about God and being religious in a world of suffering.

An inspiring and insightful work

This work shows that there is a long Jewish tradition of addressing, and contending with G-d. In face of the evils of the world the Jew is not simply silent and accepting but dares to question G-d. This is true in the Psalms, and in Job as it is later true with Rabbi Yitzhak Levi of Berditchev, and l'havdil Elie Weisel.

The profound idea that one comes closer to G-d, even when one dares to challenge G-d is one central theme of this very important work. Reading it one understands how one can remain a believing Jew while crying out against the evils of the world, and asking G-d, "Why?"

A Great Scare for a Rainy Night Ghost Story

I received an advance reading copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

A. Connan Doyle wrote more than 50 Sherlock Holmes books. Pick up any one, in any order, and you can read a complete mystery. Read them all in order and you have a great story and probably a Holmes addiction that will lead you to put, “Go to 221B Baker St., London” on your bucket list.
With that as a basis, any book series I read needs to meet that basic level; each book in the series needs to be a complete story. I should not have to read book 1 to find out who these people are. If you want a one star review, make me buy book 2 to find out who did it. Trail of the Beast - Linger 2 passes this test easily.
Trail of the Beast is the second in the Linger series. Kate Messenger, recently of the Santa Clara (CA) police department is travelling cross country with Noah Weston, of North Carolina an older man and Christopher, a 12 year old boy. All three have “special abilities” to receive psychic messages. They are on the trail of a serial killer they just know as “The Beast”. The trio has followed The Beast to Clyde, Alabama, a backwater of a dirt farm village. Christopher is a blind, mute 12 year old with the strongest special talents. He is the only known survivor of the Beast. This is a paranormal mystery after all. Christopher has been directing the trio across the country.
Clyde, AL has had some strange goings on. There is tension between the Anglo longtime residents and the influx of Latino farm workers starting to set down roots. The Father of the local church is having a test of faith. Is it him or is it the influence of the Beast. I am not telling. There is also a legend of a ghost and a killer in the local river. The perfect place for The Beast to do his nastiness.
I just flew through the book. The relationship between Kate, Noah, and Christopher grows. If you have not read the first book in the Linger series, you will be easily able to follow the story. If you have, enjoy the growth between the three. As with “Dying is a Wild Night” (Linger 1) there are twists and turns and when you think you know what is going to happen, don’t be surprised that you are way off, but you will enjoy the ride.

One of the joys of reading a series, especially one that incorporates supernatural elements, is watching the mythology and the character relationships grow and deepen. TRAIL OF THE BEAST does not disappoint, as we get even more insight into the Noah/Kate/Christopher dynamic. New characters, such as Fr. Esteban Morales, and Tara, Griff, Clyde, and "Pootie", are presented with equal attention to detail: the reader gets the sense they could walk into the town of Singer and know where everything is.

Linger 2 will not disappoint readers and will leave one anxiously awaiting Linger 3

Linger 2: Trail of the Beast begins with Kate Messenger quitting her job as a police detective and catching up with Weston and Christopher on the road. When Weston's Rambler breaks down they find themselves stuck in a small town in Alabama. They know the Beast has been here and soon realize he may still be closer than they think. They also face another threat from a different Beast that resides in the river there. This beast desperately wants Christopher.

Linger 2 will not disappoint readers and will leave one anxiously awaiting Linger 3. I've read many book series where the 2nd book just didn't live up to the first but this certainly is not the case with Linger 2. I couldn't read this one fast enough and am looking forward to Linger 3. I cannot wait to find out where the Trail of the Beast will take us next.

Dr. Donelson R. Forsyth is Professor and the Colonel Leo K. and Gaylee Thorsness Endowed Chair in Ethical Leadership in the Jepson School of Leadership Studies at the University of Richmond, where he teaches both graduate and undergraduate courses. His areas of focus include moral judgment, attribution, and group dynamics. His honors include the Outstanding Lecturer Award from the College of Humanities and Sciences and the Outstanding Teacher at Virginia Commonwealth University. A proven author, Dr. Forsyth has written more than 80 chapters and articles, published in such journals as AMERICAN PSYCHOLOGIST, JOURNAL OF PERSONALITY AND SOCIAL PSYCHOLOGY, SOCIAL PSYCHOLOGY QUARTERLY, and JOURNAL OF RESEARCH IN PERSONALITY. A member of numerous editorial boards, he is the founding editor of GROUP DYNAMICS: THEORY, RESEARCH, AND PRACTICE. He received his Ph.D. in Social Psychology from the University of Florida.

Worthwhile to read

I was required to get this book for a class, and I'm keeping it because it has a lot of useful information. If you want to know more about group dynamics or are going to be working in groups a lot, I would recommend reading this book.

Group Dynamics

I had to read this book for a class I took. There is a ton of information in it, some of which I found helpful and some of which I thought was just common sense. It is very theory based, and goes into detail about specific sociologists. I found it a hard read. But, it does have all the definitions of terms listed at the bottoms of the pages and at the end of chapters, which made studying for exams easier.

Gr 1-3-Eager to experience local customs and cuisine on their trip to Tokyo, jet-setter Dodsworth and his accident-prone duck visit Yoyogi Park, where they find a girl's lost toy, a kendama. Dodsworth promises the duck that if he can stay out of trouble while they take a bus tour, visit a museum, and attend a festival, he'll treat him to some wagashi, dessert. Predictably, the duck doesn't quite succeed, though he does inadvertently impress the locals and return the lost toy. When finally enjoying his long-awaited treat, he ends up making another mess, but his ever-patient companion just laughs. The Japanese words and complex vocabulary will make this chapter book a challenge for young readers, though Egan's pleasant, colorful panels help to decode their meaning. For an adventure in a foreign country, the plot lags slightly. Dodsworth and the Duck in the Land of the Rising Sun

In this latest installment, Dodsworth and the duck continue their adventures in Tokyo, where Dodsworth cautions the impetuous duck to be on his best behavior since "Japan is a land of customs and manners and order." The very qualities duck most certainly isn't. But for the most part duck does manage to contain himself, to the surprise of his friend. Together they take in the sights of Yoyogi Park, eat sushi, visit the Imperial Palace, stroll through the East Gardens--where duck falls in and must be rescued (even though he's a duck he never learned to swim)--and tour the Museum of Imperial Collections.

It's only when the pair travel to a temple that things start to fall apart. A festival is underway and duck disappears into the crowd. Soon he's flipping and jumping and sliding all over the place, crashing into people and knocking things over. Has duck lost it for good? No, there's a reason for his crazy antics and a very satisfying one.

Tim Egan has written and illustrated another winning easy reader featuring this odd pair of mismatched travelers. And according to a recent interview, their next stop is Athens. The Parthenon had better watch out!

Who better to visit Tokyo with than Dodsworth and his duck?

Dodsworth and the duck go to Tokyo. Everything is mysterious and delicious and cleverly fun. The duck has trouble fitting in, as usual, and accidently breaks things and knocks things over, but all is good in the end. I really liked this little trip to Tokyo with Dodsworth and the duck.

Dodsworth in Tokyo is funny, witty and full of adventure, as with the other books in the Dodsworth series. My son has the entire collection and this, along with Dodsworth in Paris, is one of his favorites. Looking forward to the next release!

About the Author
Don W. Stacks, PhD, is Professor of Public Relations in the School of Communication at the University of Miami, Coral Gables, Florida. He served as Director of the Public Relations Program from 1995 to 2009 and Associate Dean for Faculty Research and Creative Support from 2009 to 2013. Dr. Stacks has written more than 300 scholarly articles and papers and has authored or coauthored 10 books on communication topics. He is the recipient of honors including the Outstanding Educator Award from the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA); the Jackson, Jackson, and Wagner Behavioral Science Prize from the PRSA Foundation; and the Distinguished Research Fellow and Distinguished Teaching Fellow awards from the Eastern Communication Association. Dr. Stacks has been an active communication consultant since the 1970s. His areas of expertise include organizational systems assessment, sociological/psychological organizational analysis, media relations, internal organizational communications, and leadership; he is also a trained listening specialist. Dr. Stacks serves on the editorial boards of numerous communication and public relations journals, is editor of Communications Research Reports (vols. 31–33), and directs the annual International Public Relations Research Conference. He is a trustee of the Institute for Public Relations and the Arthur W. Page Society and serves on the boards of the International Public Relations Association and the Commission on Public Relations Measurement and Evaluation.
