Beyond Kabbalah...

If you've studied Crowley for even a few hours, you'll realize that you're not going to open this book and understand what he was getting at just by reading through the text a few times. This is undoubtedly a work that requires careful consideration of so many implicit elements. To list what you need to consider to get at "the deeper meaning" of this book, I'd have to sit here all day.
The interesting thing about this book is that you don't necessarily have to analyze the text thoroughly (though it's certainly worth it) to get something out of it. Some of the 'poems' evoke a good laugh, some are beautiful and inspiring and can easily become a personal gem of wisdom for the reader (for me, "The Mountaineer".)
When I first started getting into Crowley's writing, a friend recommended starting with the Book of Lies. Other friends naturally scoffed at the recommendation, and insisted I start with The Book of the Law. Now I wish I'd gone with the Book of Lies first, so that I could come back to it after reading other Crowley just to see how far I've come in the Great Work. Even if the Great Work isn't your goal, this book if nothing else is a fantastic conversation piece. I recommend it to not only occultists, but to all book lovers. It's fascinating.

Kindle edition is a mess.

I'm profoundly disappointed. This Kindle edition is just a "converted to eBook" version of the text transcriptions which have been on the internet since the '90s. Who authorized this? The current version at hermetic.com has been improved over the years to the point where this Kindle version is just a sad relic. The Book of Lies deserves a high quality Kindle version. Avoid this one.

Perfect book for home or classroom.

I first saw this book in a Kindergarten class. They were using it to write a research paper about Butterflies. I absolutely fell in love with the artwork and the information given. They talk about where they live their life cycle and the differences between Moths and Butterflies. The art reminds me of the background in Max and Ruby cartoon with the Bunnies. The Butterflies have very bright colors and are very realistic. I love this book! I bought it for my son. Oh and yes, Kindergarteners in NYC are being forced to write research papers!

The skincare chapters are the weakest sections; most people have skintypes that don't fall neatly into one of the few categories listed in the book, and the information on skincare products just skims the surface.
The chapters on hair are good at covering the basics, and the tips on coloring/processing will be useful for anyone wanting to do at-home coloring. The step-by-step hairstyling instructions mostly apply only to those with longer hair. One helpful aspect of this book, used in every section, is the suggestions given for different age groups, from teens to women in their fifties and beyond.
The cosmetics section is by far the most in-depth, with plenty of information on product types and application tips for just about every situation. The color section on how to get different 'looks' is interesting, but it would be easier for women to duplicate the looks if the makeup used was a more readily available, more inexpensive brand than Nars. The chapter on brows is excellent. The only thing lacking is the absence of any solid advice on choosing the correct colors for your skintone.
This book would be great for women of any age, though it might be especially helpful for teens or anyone else just getting into beauty regimens. It has a light tone and an 'everyone can look pretty' attitude that is encouraging.

This book works well for several reasons : 1) The language Ms.Seymour ( or her editors) use(s) is colloquial and non-intimidating . It is a pleasure to read . 2) The " Dummies" format lends itself well to a book on beauty . After all, who wants a beauty manual filled with the author's own anecdotes and boring stories ? The " Dummies" book series is known for getting to the " meat" of the topic , and this one is no exception . " Beauty Secrets For Dummies" will give you some great tips if you are a beginner, but it is also very helpful for organizing and streamlining your daily routine ( you'll probably have a list of products to buy and new techniques by the end of your first read) . It offers a substantial source of information on everything from basic skin care, cosmetic surgery , and makeup techniques . Trust me, you'll find something useful in here no matter what you are interested in and how many other " beauty" manuals you've read before .This is definitely one of my favorite books on the topic.

Great book. Some of the problems from the PE were almost the same. Totally worth the cash. The only thing I didn't care for was some of the answers didn't show the quickest way to solve them. There are a lot easier ways to solve most of the problems than shown in the solutions.

French Drawings in the British Museum

"French Drawings: Clouet to Seurat" is a softbound catalogue of some of the French Drawings from the British Museum. The Introduction, written by Martin Royalton-Kisch, Senior Curator of the Department of Prints and Drawings, The British Museum, gives a brief history of the evolution of drawing in France. As the title suggests, the earliest examples are from Jean Clouet who worked mainly as a portraitist for the French court in 1516, and upon his death his son, Francois Clouet, took over his position at court around 1540. Many drawings in the catalogue, for example Jean Clouet's "Portrait of a Young Woman" were done as studies for paintings. Francois Clouet was apparently commissioned by Catherine de Medici to do portraits of her children, and "Portrait of King Charles IX as a Young Boy" is shown in the catalogue.

Antoine Watteau is represented in 18th century work. As with many French artists before him, his use of red and black chalk was very effective, as in "Five Studies of a Woman's Head, One Lightly Sketched." White chalk was also used for these drawings.

The 19th century shows various artists such as Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres. His portrait of "Charles Hayard and his Daughter Marguerite, 1815" is done in graphite and shows the closeness of the father and daughter. Delacroix, Degas, Cezanne, Seurat and others are also among the 19th century artists.

Drawing #93 and final one is "Portrait of Marcelle Lender, c. 1893-95" by Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec.
Each drawing in the book is given a full page and also a full page text of information about the artist and the drawing.

This is a very beautiful book that has good quality paper and also excellent quality reproductions on the pages. It is a book that I can never tire of reading and studying the artwork and even using to practice certain aspects of my own drawing. There are 95 works of art in the book, so there is a lot to study and read, but mostly to enjoy.

high quality and broad ranging catalogue of French drawings

The British Museum has a collection of around 3,500 French drawings; this catalogue presents 93 examples. It begins with a sensitive "Portrait of a Young Woman" by Jean Clouet (1480-1540) and ends with a charming "Portrait of Marcelle Lender" by Toulouse-Lautrec. Between are a succession of uniformly excellent drawings by artists familiar and unfamiliar. The former include works by Poussin, Lorrain (5), Watteau (4), Fragonard, Ingres, Corot and Degas.

It is sometimes the case that an exhibition has a few star pieces with the rest being second rate. This is certainly not the case with this British Museum survey; even the drawings by less familiar drawers are of high merit and interest. The quality of the reproductions and printing in general is well above average. Highly recommended.

Definitely my favorite book by Violetta Rand so far

efinitely my favorite book by Violetta Rand so far.

We dive into the world of the Sons of Odin MC, which is along with the heroine Lily who is unfamiliar to this world. The rules, terms, and general attitudes are all something that lead to some pretty funny moments between Lily and Lang. She is primp and proper, and Lang can come off as a caveman.

Lily has gone through more challenges in her life than you would expect, which draws Lang closer to her.

Lang definitely cares a lot about taking care of his sisters, who are in his care after his parents death. It was great to see the softer side of him throughout the book. That really made their love more believable since they both really care for children.

I loved that there was a definite twist at the end, that brought them together in an unexpected way. Although I think we will see them in future Sons of Odin books too.

There were unexpected moments of humor that I really enjoyed.

Another steamy read from Rand, I cannot wait to read the rest of the series.

Violetta Rand just blew me away with this story! I haven't really gotten into the mc books those are my Daughters favorites! But I read this and now I'm hooked!! This was a great story! Having grown up in the biker world I am very excited to see a realistic portrayal of the biker life! Now I can't wait for the rest of their stories! Ten stars! To Violetta!! I absolutely loved it!

Violetta Rand's Persuasion(Sons of Odin #1) is a Must Read! Lang Anderson becomes the new MC's president after his uncle goes to jail. He is in charge of raising his 3 young sisters since the death of his parents.

Lang meets Lily Gallo after he saves her at a bar. They have instant chemistry, but Lily gets scared and calls a stop to it.

Langs sister Maya is having trouble at school and has to see the guidance counselor. When Lang takes her to school guess who's the new guidance counselor. Lily Gallo. The story unfolds from there.

Can't wait for the next book in this series!

Dr. Daniel A. Langer and Prof. Dr. Oliver P. Heil (Ph.D.) on why they wrote this book: "Part of the purpose of this book is to decode luxury by answering the questions about what luxury is and how to manage it.�We present several new findings that significantly broaden the scope of luxury research, providing one of the first comprehensive dissections of luxury."��In this book the authors carefully analyze the nature of luxury in a systematic manner for the purpose of developing a sound basis for marketing luxury products and understanding luxury markets. The fundamental propositions and characteristics of luxury are presented, and the primary luxury 'drivers' are described. More specific areas of the luxury experience are then analyzed in more detail. �These include quality and aesthetics, the purchase situation, the consumption situation, the cultural and social frame, consumer segmentation, geographical differences, product categories, and branding. It concludes with strategic advice to marketing managers.��Driven by the finding that hypothetically all categories could have a luxury tier, and the conclusion that many luxury brands are not managed appropriately, the authors provide managers with comprehensive toolsets and strategies to manage luxury in a more competitive, profitable and sustainable way.�

About the Author
Daniel Andr� Langer is Senior Vice President & GM North America at Henkel Beauty Care. Before that he fulfilled several international responsibilities at Henkel, including Corporate VP SBU Body Care as well as Marketing Director in Germany, Japan & International Hair Care. He is also a Research Fellow and Senior Lecturer at the University of Mainz. The author holds a Ph.D. and a Masters degree from the University of Mainz. He also studied in Madrid and attended executive education at Harvard, IESE and Thunderbird. He presented his research on luxury and innovation at several leading research conferences and events in the USA and Europe. Dr. Langer’s research focuses on deepening our understanding of luxury. Importantly, the marketing of regular products can benefit substantially from luxury research findings in terms of identifying different and creative strategies enhancing innovativeness, competitiveness and profitability of fast moving consumer goods. Oliver Heil is the Chaired Professor of Marketing at the Johannes Gutenberg-University of Mainz (Germany). He holds a Ph.D. as well as a Masters degree from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School. The author taught at Wharton, UCLA, IU, Lingnan and HKUST. His publications appeared in leading scientific journals and he co-authored several books. As the recipient of various academic honors he currently serves on several boards and lectures on a variety of topics. Prof. Heil is working on identifying optimal sizes and formats for limited editions of luxury products and identifying causal factors of luxury design. Also, he is working on applying the luxury index toward regular products such as fast moving consumer goods as well as luxury products to enhance branding strategies. Prof. Heil is organizing a global luxury event bringing together managers, researchers and customers dealing with luxury products. The authors are co-directors of the Center for Research on Luxury at the University of Mainz, which has the ambition to pioneer the research on luxury and to provide world-class publications and education on the topic. Great book on Luxury

This book is a truly comprehensive publication about luxury. Those who ever wondered what luxury is all about will get all their questions answered.
I would recommend it both for students and professionals.
An aspect I found particularly striking is the ability of luxury goods to provide some kind of shelter and protection in social contexts. Another is the enhancement of attractiveness. And there are many more. The authors argue that those hidden aspects provide a perceived value to consumers that exceed by far "normal" perceived values by observable product attributes, hence increasing the willingness-to-pay.

This book, “Luxury Marketing and Management” by Dr. Daniel A. Langer and Prof. Dr. Oliver P. Heil, is an instructive interesting read that pulls back the curtain on managing luxury goods to improve both their profitability and sustainability. Dr. Langer and his co author have precisely dissected the layers of luxury to provide the manager of these types of goods insightful and thorough guidelines for creating, maintaining and growing a luxury brand.

Real world examples of luxury brands such as Rolex� watches, Louis Vuitton� bags and Bentley� automobiles spice up the text with lessons that any marketing manager interested in the subject can easily master. And the bonus is that the guidelines and insights can also be applied to the marketing of more ordinary consumer goods or goods that may provide an entry into the luxury market for future consumers. As the authors insightfully state, “. . . all categories have the potential to develop a luxury tier.”

I would definitely recommend this book to any business manager, student or consumer of luxury goods interested in an informative and useful read through the previously diamond veiled world of marketing luxury goods.

One of the great things about being in an industry for many years is, if you are open-minded, the possibility exists to learn about your profession anew. I've been in the luxury industry for 30 years as a manager, buyer, salesperson and merchandiser. Daniel Langer's book has provided me with new insights on luxury; what motivates consumers, how they think, how they evaluate and perceive luxury and most important what factors make them purchasers. We are, after all, in an irrational business. A certain amount of suspension of disbelief must take place when someone is making a significant purchase. Langer's booked is backed with solid research and delineates the factors about consumer behavior that anyone in the luxury business needs to know. This is a very useful tool for owners, managers, buyers, salespeople...anyone involved in presenting and selling luxury goods.
